Little Boxes

"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood", Mr. Rogers sang at the beginning of every episode of his childrens' television program.  That's what I think when I head down the street of my neighborhood on a day like today.

Today's Photo-a-Day Challenge prompt: "your neighborhood"

I treasure the mountain view that we have, and I love our neighbors.  I grew up in a neighborhood of people who cared about and for each other.  Then my first neighborhood experience as a homeowner left a lot to be desired.  I only knew my next door neighbor.  That's it.  It was very strange.
We moved here 11 years ago and were welcomed with open arms by everyone.  It's a wonderful feeling to belong to a close-knit neighborhood.
I am reminded of this fun song from the 1960's, Little Boxes.  It's a song about the development of suburbia and the conformist middle-class attitudes.

Even so, I love my neighborhood of little boxes.

  1. I have always admired these organised layouts but the best thing is to have a beautiful mountain view. I live in a valley and I can relate to this one.

  2. That is amazing that you have such gorgeous mountains just beyond the end of your street. I also totally understand what you say about a friendly close-knit neighbourhood - we too are very lucky with our neighbours and it makes all the difference.

  3. What a lovely view!! Isn't it an amazing feeling to know you can hop in your car and be in those mountains an a few hours? I love it.
I can also relate to what you're saying about neighbors. We live on a cul-de-sac, and it seems the houses alternate between us newbies (been here eight years) and the oldies (been there at least twenty years)... but we have great relationships with them all. It what keeps my husband and I from moving!

  5. I too grew up in a close neighborhood, and missed it so much that after 20 years in the city we moved back to the country. Best move we ever made.
